EIGHT DIVORCE SUITS COMMENCED YESTERDAY. Many New Suits on the Docket - Brief Summary of Petitions Filed Thursday

Thus far one hundred and thirteen new cases have been commenced in the September term of the district court.  Of this number thirty-six suits are for divorce, eight of which were commenced yesterday.  Hon. C. M. Waterman will preside at the September term here and Hon. P. B. Wolfe will go to Davenport.

Following is a summary of the twenty-seven petitions filed yesterday:

E. A. Morgan,administratrix of the estate of A. W. Morgan, deceased, vs Charles Dutton.  Plaintiff states that defendant is indebted to her in the sum of $5.80 for medical attendance.

Electa A. Morgan vs John Morgan. Petition for divorce.  The parties in this action reside in Camanche and were married in Vermont June 15, 1860.  A decree of divorce is asked on the grounds of cruel and inhuman treatment, drunkenness and failure to support.

Anna Matthew vs John Matthew.  Petition for divorce.  The parties in this action reside in Clinton and were married Sept. 15, 1891.  The plaintiff states that her husband has been guilty of such gruel and inhuman treatment as to endanger her life.  She says that her husband has personal property and money on deposit to the value of $500, and asks that she be awarded temporary and permanent alimony.

A. R. Potter vs Charles Ott.  A suit to recover $238 for filling vacant lots with earth.

W. A. Henderson vs Ida Henderson.  Petition for divorce.  Plaintiff and defendant reside in Clinton and were married in this city on October 11, 1877, living together until August first of the present year.  Plaintiff states that his wife deserted him without any just cause, and hence he brings suit for divorce.

John Erlander vs John C. Murphy.  A suit to recover $318, claimed to be due on certain promissory notes given by defendant to plaintiff.

M. B. Belles vs J. H. Davisson, Mrs. Carried Davisson and Chester Thompson.  Plaintiff bring this suit to recover $75 for platering and performing other work on a new dwelling belonging to the defendants.

Gabriel & Hahn vs Schiller Hosford and Flora Hosford.  Plaintiffs in this suit allege that defendants are justly indebted to them in the sum of $484.32 for groceries.

W. F. Andrews vs Mary M. Andrews.  Petition for divorce.  Plaintiff resides in Camanche and was married to defendant at DeWitt November 26, 1870.  The parties lived together as husband and wife until about the 26th of the present month, at which time, Mr. Andrews alleges, his wife beat him with a stick of wood in a cruel and inhuman manner, causing him great bodily pain and suffering. He states that his wife is a strong and powerful woman, while he is a small man and not strong.  The plaintiff also accusses his wife of adultery with one Owen Gise, in October 1891.  He states that he is in constant fear of bodily harm from his wife and asks that he may be granted a divorce.

Jacob Adams vs Elvira Clough and S. G. Clough.  Plaintiff states that he is entitled to immediate possession of lots five, six, seven and eight, block twenty-two, Stumbaugh's addition at Lyons; that he has sustained $100 damages by defendant's wrongfully holding possession of the same, and asks that a writ of ejectment be issued removing defendents and their effects from the premises.

Laura Hurlburt vs August Hurlburt.  Petition for divorce.  The parties in this action reside in Lyons and were married in that city December 6, 1886.  The defentant deserted the plaintiff on July 10, 1887, hence this suit for divorce.

Joseph Andrews vs Cathering Andrews.  Petition for divorce.  Mr. and Mrs. Andrews reside in Lyons and were married in that city, on August 6, 1892.  The plaintiff states that immediately after the marriage ceremony his wife deserted him and has since refused to share his bed and board.

Sarah N. Wise vs Peter Wise.  The plaintiff in this suit states that her husband is of unsound mind by reason of a sunstroke received several years ago; that he is incompetent to manage his business affairs, and asks that she be appointed guardian of his property.

Mary Studeman vs Otto Studeman.  The petitioner in this suit asks a divorce from the defendant on the grounds of habitual drukenness.  They were married November 27, 1873, and have three boys.

A. J. Hanseler vs William Kraus.  The plaintiff in this action brings suit to recover $480 claimed to be due on a certain promisory note.

Staver & Abbott Manufacturing Co. vs A. B. and M. J. Rodman.  Plaintiffs ask judgment against defendant in the sum of $115, claimed tobe due on a promissory note.

Sherman E. Hallem vs Elizabeth Hallem.  The plaintiff asks a divorce onthe grounds of cruel treatment and desertion.  They were married in March, 1886, and resided in this city.  The plaintiff states that the defendant has on several occasions assaulted and beaten him and made his life miserable; that his peace of mind and health has been destroyed, thereby and his life endangered.  On June 9th last Mrs. Hallam, during the temporary absence of plaintiff home, sold all their household furniture to a second hand store, and deserted her home, taking their child, aged four years, with her.

Fourth Street Building Association of Clinton vs John D. Sill and Sarah Sill.  A suit to recover $536.93 due on a promissory note.

Fourth Street Building Association of Clinton vs Hugh Brown, Mary Brown, Jeremiah Taylor and Betsy Taylor.  Suit to recover $292.20 due on a promissory note.

Ellsworth E. Riggs vs Mrs. Jane Winey.  Plaintiff in this suit asks judgment in the sum of $5,000, for damages sustained by him by reason of certain malicious, false and slanderous words uttered by defendant to divers persons.  Mr. Riggs claims that Mrs. Winey accused him of burning a store building belonging to R. M. J. Winey.

F. L. Holleran vs P. J. Walton.  Plaintiff asks judgment in the sum of $22.80 for labor performed for defendant.

J. Miller & Co. vs E. W. Hammond.  Plaintiff asks judgment in the sum of $117.75 due for merchandise sold and delivered to defendant on November 25, 1891.

Fred Johnson vs John Dolan.  A petition asking that a certain judgment against plaintiff be set aside and a writ of error issued.

Clinton Lumber Co. vs James Oates.  Plaintiffs demand judgement inthe sum of $141.53 for goods, wares and merchandise delivered to defendant.

Minnie V. Barnes vs Margaret Davis and E. M. Davis.  Thissuit is brought to recover $1,000 damages by reason of the wrongful and malicious trespass of plaintiffs upon the premises of defendant.  Plaintiff states that defendants caused a ditch or trench to be dug sixty-eight feet in length immediately opposite her dwelling house, and removed a large quanity of earthfrom the premises; that they destroyed and removed ornamental and shade trees and that nine inches of said wall rests upon her premises.  She asks $1,000 damages and an injuction restraining defendant from maintaining the wall.

Cummings & Co. vs Willis S. Bratt.  Plaintiffs demand judgement against defendants in the sum of 45393 for fuel and merchandise sold and delivered to them.
