PAUL WEISE was born in Germany on October 1, 1833. He emigrated to America in 1852 and settled in Scott County, Iowa. He served in the Civil War and after his discharge, moved to Clinton County, where he married Maria Scheel in 1867. Paul and Mary Weise moved to Cass County, Iowa in 1870 and purchased 160 acres in Section 33 in Brighton Township. He was one of the five shareholders of the Marne Town Company which founded Marne in 1875. Paul Weise built one of the first houses in Marne and served in some of the early town offices. He was the father of nine children - Nannie, Henry, Dora, Emma, Lena, William, John, Ella, and Anna. Paul Weise's first wife, Anna Kruse, died during the Civil War after several years of marriage.
