REV. WILLIAM Van VLEET was born in Knox County, Illinois, on April 2, 1858. His father was a pioneer Methodist Protestant minister in western Iowa and eastern Nebraska for many years. William Van Vleet followed his father's footsteps and became an ordained minister in 1879. He pastored at Seward, Nebraska and at Osceola and Prairie City, Iowa, before being appointed to the Marne church in 1883. Rev. Van Vleet married M. C. Wenrich in March, 1880; their son William died at age two and Albert Carlton was born in 1883.
