JAMES S. SANKEY was born in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, on October 14, 1854. He was raised on the family farm in Pennsylvania and then farmed for himself until 1876, when he moved west and located in Cass County, Iowa. He purchased a farm here and improved it, and he lived there for many years before retiring and moving into Marne. James Sankey married Carrie M. Swinburne in 1881.
