WILLIAM H. SANDERS was born in Delaware County, Indiana, on February 11, 1833. His parents died in March 1853, and he clerked in a store for three years, then returned to the family farm, which he operated until 1872, when he moved to Cass County, Iowa, and purchased a farm in Section 35 of Brighton Township, three miles east-southeast of Marne, William H. Sanders married Elizabeth Smith in March, 1853, and she died ten years later, leaving five children - David S., Charles, George W., Nancy, and John R. Mr. Sanders remarried in 1864 to Nancy M. Sage, and they had five children, James W. (died in infancy), Edna E., Otto, Selva, and Edith M.
