ATLANTIC. Population, 5,100. An incorporated city located on the Nishnabotna river and on the C., R. I. & P. Ry., in Cass county, of which it is the judicial seat. It is 60 miles n. e. of Council Bluffs, 82 w. of Des Moines and 440 w. of Chicago, Ill. This is the trade center for a prosperous agricultural district and is supplied with 12 churches, excellent educational facilities, water works, fire department, opera house, 4 banks and 4 newspapers, the Telegraph (daily and semi-weekly), the Atlantic Daily Democrat (daily), the Atlantic Messenger (weekly), and the Cass County Democrat(weekly). There are several elevators, iron works, planing mill, canning factory, machine shops, ???, etc. Ships grain, live stock, produce and canned goods. Tel., Postal and W. U. Exp., U. S.
