Mrs. Ethel Thebiay funeral Sunday
Mrs. Ethel Thebiay, 96, died Friday morning at the Rotary Ann Home following a short serious illness. Funeral services were Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the United Church of Christ, with Rev. Emmett Braselton officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Thebiay is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bernhard Moklebust of Eagle Grove and Mrs. Richard Fouts of Seattle, Wash.; seven grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

After selling her home on South Iowa Ave. ten years ago, Mrs. Thebiay took up residence in the Rotary Ann Home where she continued being active with hand work and painting of water colors. She became ill a few weeks ago and was moved to the infirmary section.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ, the Troy Culture Club, the Equality Club and several years ago was named an outstanding Eagle Grove woman by the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and made an honorary member of that organization.

Relatives here from out-of-town to attend the funeral services were: Mrs. Richard Fouts of Seattle, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hicks of Toledo, O.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Moklebust of Alfred, N.Y., and Earl Mathews of Ames.

Obituary
Ethel Sophia Mathews was born February 18, 1878, in Troy Township, Wright County, Ia., the daughter of Thomas E. and Elizabeth McClelland Mathews. She attended grade school in the Head Grove rural school, graduated from high school at Cedar Falls and from Teachers College at Cedar Falls. She also attended the Art Institute at Chicago, Ill. then taught school in the Storm Lake and Newell, Ia. areas.

She was united in marriage to Joseph D. Thebiay of Eagle Grove on June 1, 1911 at Cedar Falls. The couple then made their home on a farm south of Eagle Grove until retiring and moving to Eagle Grove in the fall of 1946. Mr. Thebiay died in 1949. Mrs. Thebiay died on Friday, March 15, at the Rotary Ann Home, where she had made her home for the past 10 years. At the time of her death, she had attained the age of 96 years and 26 days.

She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth, Mrs. Bernhard Moklebust, Eagle Grove; Helen, Mrs. Richard Fouts, Seattle, Wash.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, five brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Thebiay was a member of the United Church of Christ, Order of The Eastern Star, Troy Culture Club, was past president of the Equality Club and an honorary member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 17, at 2:30 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, Eagle Grove. Rev. Emmett Braselton officiated and burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
