William Collins
13 December 1868 --- 15 November 1949

William Harmon Collins was born December 13, 1867 to Dan O. and Betsy Collins of Monkton, Vermont. With his parents he came to Utica, LaSalle County, Illinois at an early age. They resided there until he was ten years of age when they came to Grundy Center, Iowa where he received his early education while living on a farm near there.

In 1883 he came to Clarion and has lived in Wright County most of his life except for a few years in North Dakota and Minnesota returning here about 1920. He was united in marriage to Eliza Elliott of Galt, Iowa in 1890. To this union six children were born, two sons and four daughters. His wife preceded him in death in 1909 and two daughters, Grace May in 1911 and Lera Vivian in 1920. The remaining children are Ray and John Collins of Minneapolis, Mrs. Vinnie Johnson of Eugene, Oregon, and Mrs. Ruth Johnson of Takio, N. D., also several grandchildren.

He resided with his sister, Mrs. Grace Boyington in Rowan for about fifteen years, being in poor health most of the time. He entered the rest home in Eagle Grove Sept. 12, 1949 and passed away Nov. 15, 1949 at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 2 days. He also leaves to mourn his passing two sisters: Mrs. Grace Boyington of Rowan, and Mrs. Fannie Boyington of Dows, and one brother, Ralph Collins of Elkader, and a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services were held at the Wilson Funeral Chapel at Eagle Grove on Wednesday, November 16, 1949 at 4 p.m. Rev. H. G. Dawes officiated. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa.
