Forest Ferdinand Christensen
18 September 1894 ---- 12 February 1974

Forrest F. Christensen was born Sept. 18, 1894 to parents Chris C. and Mary Jane Christensen in Eagle Grove. He died following a lengthy illness, Tuesday, Feb. 12, 1974 at Hampton, Ia. where he had been a patient at the Hampton Nursing Home for several months, and previously was in the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines for treatments.

He attended the Eagle Grove schools and was graduated with the class of 1914 from Eagle Grove High School. As a young man he became associated with his father in the Christensen Shoe Store and owner of the store in 1939, continuing in the
business until 1957.

Mr. Christensen and Miss Clara Rhiner were united in marriage March 21, 1917 and made their home in Eagle Grove. Mrs. Christensen died in 1961.

Forrest was always interested in athletics and was a star member of the successful football team of 1913, was captain of the team which had the honor of defeating East High of Des Moines.

He was one of the founders of the Eagle Grove Country Club and devoted much time and energy in securing the funds for the purchase of the James farm for the golf course, and the building of the first club house. For many years he served on the board of directors and was one of the city golf champions. He was a member of the Eagle Grove team of the Boone Valley Golf Ass'n. which met each year for competition with the neighboring country clubs. He was a member of the Methodist Church; the Masonic Lodge; the American Legion and the 40 & 8.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ettna Vanderstoep of Santa Cruz, Calif.; two brothers, Dr. John Christensen of Menlo Park, Calif.; Irving Christensen of Ft. Meyer, Fla.; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Laura Rhiner, with whom he made his home since the death of his wife. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

Masonic services were held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home Friday evening. The funeral was at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kastler Babcock Funeral Home in charge of Rev. Donald Forbes, pastor of the United Methodist Church. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Here from out-of-town for the services were Mrs Vanderstoep, Irving Christensen and sons, Roger and David Christensen, of Omaha, Neb.
