Charles Elrey Nobles
31 July 1861 ---- 4 June 1946

Charles Elrey Nobles was born July 31, 1861, at Belmont, N. Y. He lived there with his parents until fifteen years of age when he came, in 1878, to a farm near Popejoy.

He was married to Caroline L. Buckingham on December 2, 1881. For several years they farmed. Then he was a foreman of a ranch for 3 ½ years and again they farmed. He moved to Eagle Grove in 1893 and worked on the railroad as brakeman and conductor for 40 years. To them was born one son, Ray Wyatt, who now lives in Chicago.

In 1900 Mrs. Nobles' sister and her husband died and the Nobles made a home for their six children.

He was a member of the Methodist church, joining in 1908 during the ministry of C. E. Chapler. He was a Mason and a member of the Order of Railroad Conductors.

He is survived by Mrs. Nobles and son Ray, also by five nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, June 7, in the Methodist church, with the Rev. C. W. Tompkins officiating. Burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery.

Dawson, Iowa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Thorpe and daughter, Clarion; Mrs. Olive Symms, Indianapolis, Ind.; Mrs. J. P Thorpe, Glendive, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Henilfin, Madison, S. D.; Mrs. S. C. Rout, Madison, S. D.; Mrs. M. A. Nelson, son and daughter, Austin, Minn.; Mrs. Ella Braden, son and daughter, Dysart, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Slater, Boone, Iowa.

Friends from out of town: D. J. Stedman, Fort Dodge, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Ebert, Rockville City, Iowa.
