Jerome B. Broeffle
8 November 1833 ---- 15 January 1912

The death of J. B. Broeffle occurred Monday night, Jan. 15, 1912, at his home in this city.

Mr. Broeffle was born in New York Nov. 8, 1833. His boyhood and youth was spent in that locality.

He was married Nov. 8, 1865 to Miss Mary Tillou, [Tilton] at West Quincy, Mo., and they began housekeeping at Macon, Mo. They resided at Macon 17 years, moving from there to Eagle Grove in Sept., 1882. They put up the cottage upon the corner which place has been their home these thirty years.

Three girls were born to this union, Mrs. John Beals and Mrs. Alex Blue of this city, and Mrs. C. O. Smith, of Tama, who together with his wife, survive him.

When a boy of fourteen he was afflicted with a disease of the bone of his left leg, and a portion of the bone was removed, and he was always somewhat crippled, though he was enabled to follow his trade of carpenter and cabinet maker. Some six years ago he fell upon an icy sidewalk and fractured his lame hip, from which he never recovered, getting around since that time with the aid of a cane or crutches.

Mr. Broeffle was a prominent Odd Fellow and the last time he was up town was to attend the dedication of the Odd Fellow's new building, which evening he enjoyed as much as anybody.

The funeral was held from the Congregational church today (Thursday). Rev. Geo. E. Plant, pastor, and the Odd Fellows carried out their impressive ritualistic ceremony.

L. L. Broeffle, a brother, of Galt, A. J. Ryel, a nephew, of Norfolk, Neb., several relatives from Clarion, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bauer of Webster City were in attendance at the funeral.

Mr. Broeffle was esteemed by all who knew him. He was a kind husband and father, a good neighbor and citizen.

Friends and neighbors have been generous in assisting during his sickness, the floral contributions were handsome and elaborate, to all which the family feel very grateful and for which they extend thanks.
