Roy Ceamon Watkins
18 December 1891 ---- 26 May 1951

Roy C. Watkins, 59, died suddenly Saturday, May 26 while driving to Elmore, Minnesota. Accompanied by his wife, Mr. Watkins was stricken with a coronary thrombosis while driving his car near Wesley, Iowa.

Mrs. Watkins noticed her husband's condition as he was driving, and she turned off the ignition of the car. The car rolled off the road but did not do any harm. A Wesley physician who was called gave the cause of death and said that Mr. Watkins only lived about 10 minutes after his attack.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev. H. G. Dawes officiating. Masonic rites were held Monday evening in the Wilson Chapel with Russell Blue as acting master. Burial was in the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery.

Mr. Watkins was a retired conductor on the Chicago and Northwestern having completed forty years of service in 1949 when he took his pension. He was active in the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the Methodist church, and the Masonic lodge.

Obituary

Ray Ceomon, son of William and Caroline Watkins was born December 18, 1891 at Melvern, Kansas. He passed away very suddenly on May 26, 1951 having reached the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 8 days. He resided in Kansas and received his education there, coming to Iowa at the age of sixteen. He began working for the Chicago and Northwestern railroad in 1910 and continued with it until his retirement as a "conductor" in 1949 completing 40 years of service.

On May 10, 1917 he was united in marriage to Hulda Kurth at Elmore, Minnesota, and to this union two children were born.

He was an active member of the Methodist church in Eagle Grove, member of the Masonic lodge, and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.

He was preceded in death by his son, Burvene (Bud) who died of wounds received in action during World War II, by his father and mother, two sisters and one brother.

He is survived by his wife, and one daughter Elaine (Mrs. C. J. Mickelson) of Webster City, and three granddaughters Carol, Nancy, and Susan. Three sisters Pearl, Mrs. Ed Elliott of Ottawa, Kansas; Opal, Mrs. Gus Taxter of Westphalia, Kansas, and Mrs. Ruth Porter of Tama, Iowa; one brother Clyde Watkins of Iowa Falls, Iowa, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Masonic services were held Monday evening at eight o'clock at the Wilson Funeral Chapel by Bower Lodge 454 A.F.&A.M., with Russell C. Blue as acting master. Funeral services were held Tuesday at two p.m. at the Methodist church, Eagle Grove, Iowa, with the Rev. H. G. Dawes officiating. Interment was made on the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa.
