Burvene LeRoy “Bud” Watkins
14 February 1922 ---- 3 February 1944

Burvene L. (Bud) Watkins died from wounds received in action, Feb. 3rd, 1944, on Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall group. The telegram containing the sad news was received from the war department by young Watkins' parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Watkins, Monday afternoon. "Bud" has been in the army since last April and overseas since last October, he would have been 22 years of age on the day his parents received the telegram. He was graduated from the Eagle Grove high school and was attending Coe College when he enlisted in the army. He was a star on the basketball team and a good student.

The War Department telegram to Mr. and Mrs. Watkins gave the mere essential details and stated that a letter would follow.
