Obituary

Emma Matilda Dalquist, daughter of Louise and Ferdinand Dalquist, was born October 24, 1871 in Ostergotland, Sweden. She was baptized in infancy and confirmed in the State church in Sweden. Later she became a soldier of the Salvation Army. At the age of 19 she came to the United States, making her home in Boone, Iowa. She was married to Swen August Swenson on August 22, 1891 in Boone. To this union were born four sons and one daughter: Walter C., Jennie M., Carl G., Wm. A., and Raymond L. Swenson.

In 1900 they returned to Sweden with their two oldest children, Walter and Jennie. When they returned, they moved to Eagle Grove, Ia., where she has made her residence. In 1906 they made a return trip to Sweden. William accompanied them that time when they visited for several months.

In 1913, they made their third trip, this time they lived there for four years with their two youngest sons, William and Raymond.

In 1937 they sold their home and sailed once more for Sweden. Just Mr. and Mrs. Swenson went that time. While there her husband passed away and was buried in Horn, Ostergotland, Sweden. She returned alone and since that time has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Stracke, until her death.

Preceding her in death were her husband and two sons, Carl G. who died in infancy, and Walter C. who was killed in an auto accident in California three years ago the 17th of February.

She was a kind and loving mother, always thoughtful of her children. Everyone who knew her was her friend. She was deeply interested in church and had a real experience with the Lord. She loved to go to Sunday school and church as long as she was able, attending the Open Bible church.

She was taken ill Dec. 29, 1943 and passed away at the home of her daughter, Feb. 11, 1944 at the age of 72 years, 3 months, and 17 days. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her daughter, Mrs. Frank Stracke of this city, and two sons, William Swenson of Ferndale, Mich., and Raymond Swenson of Hazel Park, Mich., nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one brother, Gustaf Dalquist in Sweden.
