William Nelson Eldridge
20 January 1876 --- 19 June 1962

Funeral services for William Nelson Eldridge, 86, of Clarion were held Friday, June 22nd at 2 p. m. at the Eyler Funeral Home in Clarion in charge of Rev. Ernest C. Allen of the Methodist Church. Mrs. R. B. Comstock sang Rock of Ages and Nearer My God To Thee, accompanied by Mrs. Paul Loomis. Pallbearers were Adrian Hamilton, Fritz Brinkman, Homer Wirtz, Adrian Schumacher, Frank Sebert, and Francis Sheffield.

William Nelson Eldridge, son of William and Mary Eldridge, was born January 20, 1876 at Ackley, Iowa. In 1891 he moved to Clarion where he attended school. Later he worked at various things and then learned the Barber Trade with George Dayton. On his 20th birthday, January 20, 1896 he started a shop of his own. On August 16, 1900 he was united in marriage to Bertha Idella Klocow. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Roy (Ursel) Cupp.

He continued in the Barber business about thirty years until his eyesight failed. About 1922 he started Eldridge Park at Lake Cornelia, having boats, bathing, cabins. He was active in his business until about six years ago when he broke his hip. He had been bedfast since that time.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Roy Cupp. He was preceded in death by his wife on May 30, 1959 Since that time he has been cared for at the home of his son-in-law and daughter at Lake Cornelia, where he passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 19th. Although he had lost his sight and hearing he never complained.
