Nellie Dudley Atwood
16 March 1863 ---- 15 September 1942

Mrs. Dan Atwood died at her home in this city Tuesday, Sept. 15. Funeral services will be held at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral Home tomorrow, Friday afternoon at 2:30, with the Rev. L. M. Wilkinson in charge.

Nellie Dudley, daughter of William and Abigail Dudley, was born in Amboy Center, N. Y., March 16, 1863, and died in her home in Eagle Grove, Iowa on September 15, 1942, at the age of 79 years.

When six years of age she came with her parents to Manchester, Iowa which is the site of the first post office in the state. There she lived with her family until January 20, 1890, when she was united in marriage to Daniel Atwood of Eagle Grove, who was proprietor of the first clothing store in this part of the state. To this union one child was born, George Atwood, who lives on a farm southeast of Eagle Grove.

Mrs. Atwood was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away December 4, 1934; by Fred Dudley, a brother, two sisters, Mrs. Heath and Mrs. Charles Fierstine, and a granddaughter, Marion Atwood of Eagle Grove. She is survived by Mr. and Mrs. George Atwood of Eagle Grove, one granddaughter, Wilma, and one brother, Perry Dudley, of Manchester, Iowa.

Mrs. Atwood was very devoted to her family and friends. She was a member of the PEO, the Eastern Star, and was for over 50 years a strong worker in the Congregational church.
