Vada Belle Wilcox Mead
16 July 1892 ---- 18 October 1942

Vada Belle, daughter of Jule and Mary Wilcox, was born July 16, 1892, in Troy township, Wright county, Iowa, and died at her home in Eagle Grove, October 18th, 1942 at the age of 50 years, 3 months, and 2 days. In early childhood she attended the school near her home and later the Eagle Grove high school.

On Sept. 4, 1912 she was united in marriage to Mearl Lee Mead of Hoopeston, Ill. The newly married couple made their home at Eagle Grove. Eight children came to bless this union, Virginia, Mrs. Carlyle Erickson of Webster City; Frances, Mrs. Gifford Boring of Detroit, Mich.; Madeline, Mrs. Carl Reif of Detroit, Mich.; Hope, who died in infancy; Gail, Mrs. R. H. Johnson of Washington, D. C.; Marjorie, Richard and Amber, all at home.

Mrs. Mead was a great lover of her home and family and busied herself making her home attractive and comfortable. She was a good neighbor and a friend to all who knew her and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

In her youth she became a Christian and joined the First Baptist church of Eagle Grove. The church was much on her mind and during the last illness she spent much time in prayer for the church she loved. She will be greatly missed by her church and all who knew her.

Besides her loving husband and children she leaves to mourn her passing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jule Wilcox of Eagle Grove; two brothers, Ray Wilcox of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Howard Wilcox of Hillsboro, Oregon; two grandchildren, Frank and Frances Ann Reif of Detroit, Mich,; and also many aunts, uncles, and cousins and a host of friends. Two sisters preceded her in death, Mrs. Frank Peach, and Mrs. John Bliss, both of Eagle Grove.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Baptist church with the Rev. Throckmorton in charge.
