14 November 1876 --- 14 July 1941

John Shoenhair, 64, died at his home on South Commercial Avenue Monday morning, July 14. He has been suffering from a partial stroke of paralysis for about three years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. J. R. Tumbleson in charge, at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral home. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Obituary

John Shoenhair, son of John and Lena Shoenhair, was born in Lenox, Iowa, Nov. 14, 1876. When he was 14 years of age the family moved to Guthrie, Okla., where he lived until 1900, when he returned to Iowa and made his home with his brother, George, at Iowa Falls.

On Nov. 20, 1907, he was united in marriage with Miss Ethel McCormick at Clemens, Iowa. They lived in Clemens until they moved to a farm west of Eagle Grove in February 1912 and lived there for four years. Since then, they have made their home in this city. To this union were born three sons, John James of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Richard and Robert who are still at home.

About three years ago Mr. Shoenhair suffered a paralytic stroke from which he did not entirely recover. On Monday morning he was stricken again and passed away in the afternoon.

Besides his sons there remain his wife, Ethel; four sisters, Anna Shoenhair, Mrs. Rosa McKean, Mrs. Sarah McPherson of Guthrie, Okla., Mrs. Amelia Speer, Olathe, Kans., four brothers, George and Sam of California, Will of Muskogee, Okla., and Frank of Eagle Grove. Two other brothers, James and Charles, preceded him in death.

Mr. Shoenhair was baptized and joined the Christian church in 1907. Upon coming to Eagle Grove, he united with the Methodist church of which he was a member until the time of his death. He was for many years a member of I.O.O.F in Guthrie, Okla., and later in Eagle Grove.
