William George Herrick
1 June 1866 ---- 20 March 1953

Funeral services for W. G. Herrick, 80, former Eagle Grove businessman were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Kastler Funeral Home. Burial was in the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery. Rev. Dale Brown, pastor of the Congregational church officiated.

Mr. Herrick died in a nursing home in Iowa City on Friday, March 20, following a short illness. He had been making his home with his son, Dr. P. W. Herrick, in Iowa City for the past 10 years.

Previous to that, Mr. Herrick had operated a hardware, plumbing and tin shop in Eagle Grove. He was a long-time resident and was a prominent and active member of the Congregational church and the Masonic lodges here. He was a highly respected businessman and citizen of the community and he will be seriously missed by his many friends.

Born in Sparta, Wis., June 1, 1866, he was the son of George William and Emma Holcomb Herrick, and came to Mason City as a child with his parents. His father, a pioneer contractor, built the fourth home to be constructed in Mason City.

Mr. Herrick attended the schools in Mason City and entered the hardware business in that city. He remained in the hardware and sheet metal business for many years, living in various Iowa cities and spent many years in this business in Eagle Grove.

He married the former Miss Etta Belle Mahan, Jan. 7, 1891 in Austin, Minn. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in their home in Eagle Grove a short time before Mrs. Herrick's death occurred on Jan. 21, 1941.

Mr. Herrick was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, and deacon of the Congregational church.

He was a member of Bower Lodge 464, A.F. and A.M., and Eagle Chapter 114, O.E.S. for 62 years. He was a Past Patron of Eagle Chapter, as well as a charter member and Past Watchman of Shepherds of Sharon Shrine 14 of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, all of Eagle Grove.

Survivors include in addition to Dr. Herrick another son, George W. Herrick of Cedar Falls, two grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Winnie Burdick of Richmond, Calif.
