Funeral services for L. E. Thorn, 83, who died at the home of his son, Walter Thorn, Wednesday, were held Friday afternoon at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral Home.

Lemuel Eastman Thorn, son of Noah and Elizabeth Thorn, was born February 6, 1858 in New York state. He moved with his family to Eldora, Iowa as a boy, where he grew to manhood. On January 1, 1875 he was united in marriage with Miss Belle Erma Brooks.

While in Eldora he worked as a carpenter and cabinet maker until he came to Eagle Grove in 1889, where he lived until the time of his death. Here he followed his trade for some time. Later, he conducted a recreation parlor for many years. He retired from business some years ago.

Mrs. Thorn passed away Feb. 28, 1923. After her death, he made his home with his son, Walter, until he also passed away May 14, 1941, at the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 8 days.

Eleven children, 10 boys and 1 girl, were born to this family, four of whom have passed away. Those living are: Wm. Ernest of Fort Dodge; Mrs. Nettie Streit of Clarion; Clarence of Gladbrook; Noah, Otis, Walter, Harold of Eagle Grove. Also, 25 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and a number of nephews and nieces.

Mr. Thorn was well known to a large number of people in this community, having been a resident there for 52 years.
