Funeral services for the late Oscar Olson were held at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral Home Saturday afternoon with the Rev. J. J. Severtson in charge. The American Legion and Spanish American War Veterans furnished an escort, and full military honors were given at the grave in Rose Hill cemetery.

Obituary

Oscar Olson was born to the parents Albert and Mary Olson May 31st, 1887 at Freedom, Ill., and died at Eagle Grove, Iowa, Feb. 23, 1939, age 51 years, 8 months, and 23 days. He was baptized, received instruction, and confessed the Christian faith.

On March 24, 1904 he enlisted in the United States Navy at Chicago, Ill., and served about four years, receiving his honorable discharge May 30, 1908 at San Pedro, Calif. His family having moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, Oscar also came here, and was married to Miss Nora Spangler Feb. 28, 1909, and has since made Eagle Grove his home.

About two years ago he underwent a serious operation for the removal of a goiter at the Veterans' hospital in Des Moines. Oscar never fully regained his vigor after that experience. He passed away suddenly while returning from his work Thursday, Feb. 23. He is now survived by his wife, Mrs. Nora Olson, and by three children, viz. Malvern and Robert Olson, both of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Leona Thompson of Goldfield, Iowa. One son, Manford, died Oct. 23, 1914. He is also survived by two grandchildren, by his aged mother, Mrs. Mary Olson of Slayton, Minn., and by two brothers and one sister, Levi Olson of Slayton, Minn. And Arthur Olson of Worthington, Minn., and Mrs. Ida Schaeffer of Avoca, Minn.

Oscar was a friendly personality, easy to meet and pleasant to visit with. He was a kind husband and father. He worked at the trade of painting and paperhanging and had many friends in the vicinity.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral Home. Burial was made in the Rose Hill cemetery.
