17 July 1850 ---- 16 October 1939

August Johnson, 89, died Monday morning at his home on the Severtson farm east of Eagle Grove. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the West Side Lutheran church in charge of Rev. Fauske. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery.

August Johnson was born July 17, 1850, to parents Joseph and Sophie Johnson at Kyrkfalla, Sweden, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Kyrkfalla, Sweden.

He was united in marriage to Anna Tollefson in 1879 at Adanger, Norway. To this union were born three sons and three daughters, Hilda, Carl, Thory, Anna, Alfred, and Marie.

He migrated in 1901 with his family to Leland, Ill., where he was occupied with farming until 1915, when he moved to Kanawha, and later to Eagle Grove, where he also was occupied with farming, and passed away at his farm home three miles east of Eagle Grove on Oct. 15, 1939, at the age of 89 years, and three months.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Johnson, by one daughter, Marie, by one son, Alfred, by seven brothers and six sisters. He is survived by two sons and two daughters, Hilda Johnson at Eagle Grove, Mrs. Robert Hoadley, at Kanawha, by Carl and Thory Johnson of Eagle Grove, by three grandchildren, Howard Hoadley of Chicago, Ill., by Mrs. Warren Willert of Eagle Grove, by Robert Hoadley of Kanawha, and by one great grandchild, Sharon Hoadley of Chicago, Ill

At the age of forty, Mr. Johnson experienced a spiritual awakening and accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. He continued steadfast in his faith until his death, that Jesus Christ had saved him. He enjoyed peace and fellowship with his Saviour and with the children of God. For the last ten years he was a member of the West Side Lutheran church of Eagle Grove. Mr. Johnson was a peaceful neighbor, a faithful, and good husband, and father.

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at the home, and at the West Side Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. H. S. Fauske. He was laid to rest at Rose Hill cemetery.
