Elizabeth Jacobsdatter Orsland
2 June 1852 ---- 1 January 1939

Elizabeth Orsland was born to the parents Jacob and Dorthea Orsland, the eldest of eight children, at Tysver, [Tysvær] Haugesund, Norway, June 2, 1852, and died at her home at 1004 N. Arthur Ave., Eagle Grove, Jan. 1, 1939, age 86 years, 6 months, and 30 days. She was baptized unto Christ, received instruction, and confessed the Christian faith.

In 1873 she came with her parents and the family to America to Story county, Iowa, remaining there about two years after which, the family moved to Webster City in 1875, locating between Badger and Thor. There the family lived on their farm home for many years. And in 1901 they moved to Eagle Grove which has since been their home.

Her father passed away Nov. 2, 1912 and her mother passed away Dec. 18, 1926. She is now survived by two sisters, Mrs. Martha Holm, and Mrs. Wm. Toresdahl, also one brother, Jens Orsland. Four brothers have preceded her in death. She is also survived by a large number of relatives and friends.

Elizabeth was a kindhearted and gentle lady. While she was able, she loved to attend her church, but for many years was not able. She however appreciated the ministry of the means of grace. Her health has gradually declined for a number of years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 4th from the home and from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church. Burial was made in the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery.
