John Cameron, 85, pioneer resident of this community, died at his home here on Monday evening. Mr. Cameron has been in failing health for several years and for the past two weeks had been in critical condition.

He is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Campbell and Mrs. Howard Jones. Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday afternoon and the Rev. Floyd Nelson conducted the services. Mr. Cameron has been a resident of this community for many years and was known as a man of extreme kindness to all.

Obituary

John Henry Cameron was born in Indiana on Sept. 18, 1851, and passed away at his home in Goldfield, Iowa, on Dec. 7, 1936, at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 19 days.

Mr. Cameron had been in poor health for the last three years and the last eight months he had been confined to his bed.

In his early childhood he moved with his parents to Story county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Sarah E. Paskin on March 5, 1873. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Agatha Kelling of Ledyard, Edwin C. Cameron, Mrs. Edith Jones and Mrs. Martha Campbell of Goldfield.

Mrs. Cameron and two children, Agatha and Edwin preceded Mr. Cameron in death. He leaves to mourn his passing, two daughters, Edith and Martha; three sisters, Mrs. Matilda Reynolds of Ames, Mrs. Amanda Johnson of Story City and Mrs. Lottie Walker of Eau Claire, Wis.; also 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give to me at that day; and not to me only, but also to all them that have loved his appearing.”

The funeral was held at the home in Goldfield on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 9, 1936, the Rev. Floyd H. Nelson officiating.

Interment was in the Glenwood cemetery at Goldfield.

Death took one of Wright counties' first settlers Monday evening, when John Cameron, 85, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Campbell, in Goldfield, at 7:30 Monday evening.

Reputed by his friends to be the first settler to homestead north of Otter Creek in 1878, Mr. Cameron was known throughout this territory as a splendid neighbor, a good farmer and a friend to all.

Born in Indiana in 1851, he came to Story County, Iowa with his parents in 1872, where they lived near Ames. Mr. Cameron was well acquainted with the late Billy Sunday, famous evangelist who lived near their farm at that time. After marrying Sarah E. Paskin at Ames in 1873, the young couple moved to a farm north of Goldfield about six miles in 1878.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Cameron, two of whom are deceased and Mrs. Cameron, passed away in 1922, after a prolonged illness. A son, Edward, died in 1929, and a daughter, Mrs. Agatha Kelling died in 1933. The surviving children are Mrs. Joseph Campbell, and Mrs. Howard Jones, both of Goldfield.

Mr. Cameron retired from farming in 1901 and moved to Goldfield, where he remained until his death.

In recent years he had been failing in health and had been confined to his bed since April.

Funeral rites were held at the Campbell home, Wednesday afternoon of this week. Rev. Floyd Nelson pastor of the Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was made in Glenwood cemetery at Goldfield.

Mr. Cameron is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Amanda Johnson, of Story City, Mrs. Matilda Reynolds, of Ames, and Mrs. Lottie Walker, of Le Claire, Wis. There are eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

John H. Cameron, 85, a pioneer Wright county citizen, passed away at his home Monday night following an illness of several years' duration. Mr. Cameron was born in Indiana in 1851 and moved with his parents to Ames, Iowa, in 1872 where he continued to reside until 1878, when he moved to a farm 6 miles northeast of Goldfield.

He was united in marriage to Sarah E. Paskin at Ames in 1873

Four children were born to this union: A son, Edward, who passed away in 1929, three daughters, Mrs. Agatha Kelling, who passed away in 1933 and the Mesdames H. H. Jones and Joseph Campbell, both of this city. His wife preceded him in death in 1922.

Mr. Cameron farmed until 1901 when he retired and moved to Goldfield where he had since resided. He is survived by a number of grandchildren, besides his two daughters and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Floyd Nelson, pastor of Christian church in charge. Burial was in Glenwood cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen Cameron of Livermore and Leonard Cameron attended the funeral of their grandfather in Goldfield Monday. Mrs. Rapkie of Livermore spent Monday visiting at the Leonard Cameron home.
