Dr. Roger Leslie O'Toole
28 January 1911 ---- 7 October 1988

Roger Leslie O'Toole was born January 28, 1911, the son of Thomas and Mary Letitia Collins O'Toole at Eagle Grove. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Eagle Grove in 1928. He attended Loras College, Dubuque for three years before going to the University of Iowa Medical School, from which he received his degree in 1935.

Dr. O'Toole was united in marriage to Emily Fisher of Marshalltown who is now deceased. Later in life, he married Phyllis Moore of Eagle Grove. They lived in Arlington, Va., and Phoenix, Ariz.

He served in the United States Army Air Corps as a Lt. Colonel in the medical corps on Okinawa with the B-29's as a flight surgeon. After being discharged from the Army, he practiced pediatric medicine in Waterloo from 1947 to 1956. Dr. O'Toole moved to Phoenix, Ariz. in August of 1956 where he was on the staff of the Veterans Administration Hospital until 1970.

Dr. Roger O'Toole died October 7, 1988 in Arlington, Va. at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Father Thomas O'Toole; and one sister, Eileen. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; four sons, Thomas, Phoenix, Ariz.; Dennis, Williamsburg, Va.; Michael O'Toole, Carlsbad, Calif.; and John, Newport Beach, Calif.; two brothers, Dr. Lawrence O'Toole, LeMars; and Gerald O'Toole, Eagle Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Francis (Alice) Mentzer, Eagle Grove; and Mrs. Matt (Isabel) Thielen, Eagle Grove; and nine grandchildren.

Memorial services for Dr. O'Toole were held October 10, 1988 in Arlington, Va. Funeral services were held October 12 at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove with the Rev. Wayne Droessler officiating. Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
