Hazel Hathaway Anderson
20 March 1891 --- 16 July 1938

Mrs. William W. Anderson formerly Hazel Hathaway of this city, died in St. Louis, Saturday, July 16th. The remains were brought to Eagle Grove where funeral services were held in the Wilson Funeral Chapel, Tuesday afternoon, July 19, with the Rev. A. S. Kilbourn in charge. Interment was in the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery. “In the Garden” was sung, as a duet by Mrs. E. C. Johnson and Mrs. John Potgeter. The Eastern Star service was given at the grave with Mrs. A. H. Martin, Worthy Matron, and Harry Shurtz, Acting Worthy Patron, in charge.

Obituary

Hazel Hathaway Anderson, the daughter of Charles and Hannah Giffing Hathaway, was born March 20, 1891, at Eagle Grove, Iowa. She grew up in this city, graduating from the Eagle Grove high school with the class of 1909. She continued her education by taking a course in a Des Moines business college. After being employed in Des Moines for some time, she became bookkeeper in the Merchants National Bank in Eagle Grove until 1920.

From Eagle Grove she went to Washington and then to Los Angeles where she was employed by the California National Bank for eight years.

She was united in marriage to William W. Anderson at Los Angeles on March 21, 1931. Soon after they removed to Shelton, Wash., which has since been her home until she came to St. Louis to the home of her sister, Mrs. Clint Miler for medical care in February of his year. Since an operation in March, she had lingered until her death which occurred at St. Louis on Saturday, July 16, 1938.

Hazel was a kind and devoted wife, sister, and friend. During her last illness she was patient amid suffering as her loved ones ministered so lovingly to her needs. While she walks no more among us, her spirit shall live on in the memories and hearts of all those who knew and loved her.

Hazel had been a member of the Eagle Grove Congregational church since girlhood. She was also a member of the O. E. S.

She is survived by her husband, William W. Anderson, two sisters, Mrs. Clint Miler, and Mrs. Abbie Federlin of St. Louis, and two brothers, Leonard, and Frank Hathaway of Minneapolis.

Attending the funeral services from out of the city were Frank and Leonard Hathaway, Minneapolis, Mrs. Abbie Federlin and Mrs. C. Miler, St. Louis, Mrs. Amber Anderson, a niece, and family, Sioux City, Dan Hibbert and family, Humboldt, Mrs. Emma L. Wilson, Irvington.
