Goldfield Resident Suffers Fatal Stroke on Fishing Excursion

Goldfield, IA — Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Thursday for Herbert C. Oviatt, 59, who died suddenly at a hospital in Alexandria, Minn., early Monday after a short illness. He was stricken while on a vacation fishing trip with his wife. Besides his wife he leaves a son and 2 daughters.

Funeral services wars held at the Methodist church here Thursday afternoon for Herbert C. Oviatt who died unexpectedly at a hospital in Alexandria, Minn., early Monday morning following a short illness.

Mr. and Mrs. Oviatt had gone as Minnesota on a vacation and fishing trip and he became ill while there. He entered the Alexandria hospital Sunday.

A life-long resident of this community, he had farmed near Goldfield for many years. Several years ago, the Oviatts had moved into Goldfield.

Herbert Clemmer Oviatt was born to Clay and Frances Oviatt, in Wright county Iowa on December 12, 1886. He was the youngest son of the family, consisting of one brother and one sister.

He was united in marriage to Mary Esther Farmer on December 25, 1913, to this union was born four children.

Mr. Oviatt passed away September 30, 1946, at the age of 59 years, 8 months. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mary Esther, a son, Russell of Goldfield, two daughters, Josephine of Storm Lake, and Mary, a student at Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. One daughter, Inez Esther, preceded him in death. A sister, Mrs. Inez Little of Worthington, Minn., and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The Rev. Fred M. Schultz, pastor of the Goldfield church, officiated at the rites and burial was made in Glenwood cemetery.

McConnell, Cedar Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Dale Risdon, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Danskin, Marengo; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Farmer, Mrs. Laura Glenny, Mrs. A. J. Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Walters, Storm Lake; Mrs. Maggie Templeton, Chas. I. Rowen, Rowan; Mr. James Rowen, Clarion; Mr. Dean Matthew, Spencer; Mrs. Gay Thompson, Humboldt; Mrs. T. J. Smith, Mrs. L. R. Willardson, Mrs. L.
