Death of an Old Settler.
The remains of Charles A. McClintock, an old and highly respected resident of Frankville, were brought to Decorah from Minneapolis Saturday. The funeral services were held at 1:30 o’clock at the Methodisth{sic} church and burial in Phelps cemetery. Mr. McClintock was born in Philadelphia in 1824. With his parents he moved to Northern Indiana in 1835 where he remained for several years. He then returned to Philadelphia and engaged in the mercantile business, also working at his trade as a carpenter, until 1851; that year he spent in the employ of the U. S. government on the great lakes. In 1852 he came to Winneshiek county and settled in Frankville township, acquiring land and engaging in farming. He was married in 1856 to Nancy Hawks. Eight children were born to them and all are living. They are Charles and Albert of Minneapolis, Edward of St. Paul, Robert of Decorah, Sylvester of Salesville, Montana, Benaggi of Kenosha, Wis., Mrs. Eugenia Eno of Merrian Park, and Mrs. Mary Ewing, who resides on the old homestead at Frankville. Mr. McClintock’s death occurred on Thursday last at the home of his son Albert in Minneapolis, where he had resided for several years. He was a man of genial disposition and while he gave up his residence at Frankville many years ago he never lost interest in his old home and friends, making yearly visits among them until the infirmities of old age made him one of the shut-ins.
