THE SILENT REAPER.
MRS. BENJAMIN F. SMITH.
Early last Thursday morning, Mrs. B. F. Smith, one of the older residents of this city, passed to her eternal reward.
She was born seventy-three years ago in Frankfort, Kentucky. When a child of eight her parents moved to Niles, Michigan, and there she spent the early years of her life. Reared in a Christian home, she was always active in her church and prominent in the social life of her city. In 1876 she was married to Mr. B. F. Smith, who at that time was one of the leading business men of Decorah. Coming here as a bride, she has spent the remainder of her life among us.
During the early years of her married life her home was a hospitable one and her church was foremost in her endeavors. Mr. Smith died very suddenly twenty-one years ago, and since then she has lived alone, but was never lonely, for, while she was always a woman of rate Christian grace and character, as poor health increased, and her sufferings grew greater, she truly “walked with God;” one seldom sees such an example of patient suffering and cheerfulness. She had many friends, both young and old, who loved her dearly.
About ten days ago she was confined to her bed with bronchial pneumonia and from that time until she died she had every care and comfort that loving friends could give to her. A trained nurse, whom she grew to love greatly, was constantly with her, and her sister, Miss Carrie Bond, of Niles, Michigan, came at once to help care for her. Her end came peacefully with her sister and her nurse both with her.
The funeral services were held at the home last Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, her pastor, Dr. Willett, officiating, while the church choir sang three of her favorite hymns. She was always passionately fond of flowers, and it was most fitting that, at the last, she should be surrounded by such beautiful ones.
Last Monday evening her sister, Miss Bond, accompanied the remains to Niles, Michigan, where Mrs. Smith will be buried beside her husband, and near family and friends.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows this was Sallie (Bond) Smith. She died Feb. 6, 1913 and is buried in the Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles, MI.
