THE SILENT REAPER.
MRS. GEORGE HOCHHOUS.
Mrs. George Hochhous passed away Sunday night at 11 o’clock at the family home in the fifth ward, after an illness of more than a year, death being due to diabetes. Mrs. Hochhous’ maiden name was Jane Gregg. She was born October 22, 1851, at Monona, Clayton county, where she was married in 1875 to Geoge Hochhous. A few years later they moved to Decorah and here they have since resided. Five children were born to them, but all except their daughter Jeanette (Mrs. M. W. Karman) died in infancy. Beside her husband and daughter she is survived by one brother, Jas. Gregg of Postville, and one sister, Mrs. Samuel Arnold of Monona. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Grace Episcopal church, Rev. Wellington McVettie officiating. Interment was made at Phelps cemetery. Mrs. Hochhous had many acquaintances who join in extending sympathy to her husband and daughter. She will be remembered by her neighbors and associates as a woman of kind deeds in times of need and loyal in her friendship.

Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone in Phelps Cemetery shows her name as Highhouse.
