On Saturday night after a lingering and painful illness Ole Remmen was at last released from all earthly struggles to safely wander home. Mr. Remmen has been ailing for quite a long time and the silent reaper which to him seemed tardy was welcomed as a last balm to his painful existence. Funeral services will be held to-morrow. We will give obituary next week.

Ole Remmen was born in Vang, Valders, Norway, on Oct. 1, 1838,{?} and passed away after a long and painful illness on Dec. 28, 1912, at the age of 80 years. On Feb. 7, 1858, he was united in marriage to Kari Oyloe. To this union were born eight children, Anna, (deceased), John, (deceased), Gilbert, (deceased), John, (deceased), Mary, (deceased), Annie, (deceased), Gilbert and Bertha. In 1860 he came from Norway to Iowa and made his home here in Springfield township, where he resided until his death. Mr. Remmen was a devoted husband, an affectionate father, possessing a cheerful disposition a staunch character and always upright in his dealings with his fellow men. He was a kind and hospitable neighbor always ready to assist when occasion permitted. Ever a faithful servant in all religious duties, worldly responsibilities were never known to interfere or obliterate the desire to practice the loyalty his spirit so readily granted. He leaves to mourn his departure one son, Gilbert, and one daughter, Bertha. The funeral services were held at the Washington Prairie church, with interment in the immediate cemetery, Rev. P. Koren officiating.
“Dust thou art, to dust returneth,” was not spoken of the soul.
With a slow and noiseless footstep
Comes that message divine.
Takes the vacant chair beside me,
Lays her gentle hand in mine.
Peace to his memory.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Oct. 1, 1832 which does not agree with the above, but the gravestone shows 1832.
