When the sad intelligence of the passing away of Mrs. Rhoda Goddard had been learned on Sunday morning it seemed impossible to be true. On Wednesday she was taken seriously ill but it was hoped for her recovery, for at other times she had been taken with similar sieges of heart trouble. Death removed Mrs. Goddard from a loving home and a large circle of friends, who knew her to be true and faithful. Mrs. Rhoda Horton Goddard was born at Utica, N. Y., on Aug. 14, 1851, and came to Winneshiek county in 1866, since which time she has resided in the vicinity of Fort Atkinson. She was united in marriage with H. T. Goddard at Calmar, Iowa, in 1869. To Mr. and Mrs. Goddard were born four children Mrs. Fred Krumm of New Auburn, Wis., Edith and Nellie, who have passed to their reward, and Ernest of this place. She is also survived by her husband, four brothers and two sisters: Walter, William, Guy, Homer Horton and Mrs. Robert Butcher, all of New Lathrop, Mich., and Mrs. Fred Ayers of Iowa. The funeral will be held from her home and later from the M. E. church Wednesday at 1 p. m., Rev. Young of Calmar officiating. It will also be presided over by the Royal Neighbors of which order shew as{sic} a social member. The floral offerings were many and beautiful showing the respect in which she was held by all.
