LaRue is survived by her children Rhonda Boe (Mark Soland), Cheryl (Chris) Minor, Byron (Heidi) Anfinson, Lory (Dave) Erickson, Craig (Sherri) Anfinson and Julie (Vaughn) Neuzil.
She had 23 grandchildren: Meghan (Bill) Meyer, Vanessa, Lindsay, Sam (Danielle) and Crystal Wenthold, Derek (Ashley) Christophersen, Morgan (Brock) Grimm, Andrew, Ryan and Christian Minor, Abby (Josh) Barnard, Matthew, Benjamin and Isabel Anfinson, Zach (Celeste), Sierra and Evan Smith, Keaton (Olivia) and Marisa Anfinson, Rachel (Carter) Senechal, Austin Anfinson, Haley (David) Calix and Isaac Neuzil and 23 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother Mike (Janice) Meyer, sisters-in-law Elaine Meyer, Lorraine Meyer, Karlene Anfinson, and son-in-law Miles McCubbin.
LaRue was born on April 18, 1938, to Lawrence and Ethel (Schutte) Meyer on the family farm near Ossian, Iowa. As a youth she attended Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia and Ossian Public Schools, graduating in 1956. Following graduation, she worked in a dental office.
In 1958 she married Melvern Boe. They lived and farmed in rural Ossian and had two daughters, Rhonda and Janelle. After Melvern’s death, the family moved to Ossian. Through the construction of her new home in Ossian, LaRue met Wayne Anfinson who worked at the lumberyard. On July 13, 1963, LaRue married Wayne. They made their home in Waucoma. Wayne adopted Rhonda and Janelle. Soon came five more children: Cheryl, Byron, Lory, Craig and Julie.
They were active members of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stapleton. LaRue was a skilled homemaker, cook, baker and seamstress. She worked several jobs. A family favorite was her job as a cook at Turkey Valley, allowing her to serve her children and grandchildren. LaRue enjoyed Sudoku, jigsaw puzzles, and many games of Rummikub, along with playing the piano and accordion.
After Wayne’s death in 2000, she moved to West Des Moines, and then most recently to Waukee, IA. Everywhere she went, she befriended many and shined the light of Jesus.
LaRue’s focus in life was her faith. She enjoyed participating in Bible Study Fellowship and her church and Attivo Bible studies, watching Turning Point with Pastor David Jeremiah, and attending Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. She was always looking for ways to grow in her faith and to show the love of Jesus to all those God put in her path. Her strongest desire was for all to come to a saving faith in the Lord Christ Jesus.
A special thanks to our extended family and friends for your love, support, and prayers. Thanks to EveryStep Hospice team for your professional and personal care of LaRue in her last month here on earth. And to her wonderful community of neighbors at Attivo Active Living, you were such an encouragement to LaRue and her family.
