AT REST.
JAMES BIRDSELL.
After an illness of a little over three weeks, following a stroke of paralysis sustained on January 23, James Birdsell, a pioneer resident of Frankville township, passed away on Thursday last, February 15, in his 68th year. Mr. Birdsell was born on November 17, 1844, at Port Dover, Ont., and came to Winneshiek county with his parents at the age of seven years. When the War of the Rebellion broke out he enlisted in Company H, 16th Iowa Infantry, serving from January 1862, until the fall of that year. He was discharged on account of illness, but on recovering again enlisted in Company K, 1st Minnesota heavy artillery, and served to the close of the war. He resumed his home with his parents in Winneshiek county at that time. On December 11, 1876, he was married to Rachel Fulsom of Myron. Three children were born to them, Lettie, Benjamin and William, all of whom with their mother survive to mourn the death of one who has been a true husband and father. The deceased was a man who took an active part in the affairs of his community and enjoyed the respect of a wide circle of acquaintances. He was a member of Col. Hughes Post of Decorah and also of the Masonic lodge of Frankville, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him. The funeral was held Sunday last at the Centennial church and was conducted by Rev. Ziegler of Frankville and Rev. Lemen of Decorah.Source: Decorah Republican Feb. 22, 1912 P7 C3
