Patricia Lynn McIntosh passed away on Oct. 20, 2023.
She was attended by her family, friends, Winn Med Hospice staff and gentle caregivers at Wellington Place. She will be remembered as a beautiful, warm-hearted and generous wife, sister, friend, mother and grandmother. Pat enjoyed reading, poetry, swimming, and knitting, but at the end she most loved being in the company of friends.
Pat was born in Aurora, IL.,1941, the first of three children to Nick and Hedy Sands. Following their father’s career with the CB&Q Railroad, the family moved to Edgemont, SD, then to Centralia, Ill.,where Pat graduated from high school. She was cheerleader for three years and was elected 1959 May Fete Queen her senior year.
After one year of college at Blackburn University in Carlinville, Ill., Pat married Dick Flanagan and welcomed two children into their marriage: Kelly in 1961; Michael in 1963. Pat continued her studies in early childhood education, becoming an elementary teacher, then later completing her masters in administration. She was k-8 principal in Galesburg, Ill., and later in Verona, Wis., from whence she retired in 2003.
After Pat’s first marriage ended in divorce, she married James E McIntosh. They remained together for 36 years, moving to The Villages, Florida after retirement, and then to Decorah in 2013 to be closer to family.
Pat was preceded in death by her spouse Jim McIntosh, her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her children Kelly Hendricks (Redgranite, Wis.) and Michael Flanagan (Dallas, Tex.); by her grandchildren Morgan, Mackenzie and Devin; and by her sister Julie Fischer (Decorah) and her brother Guy Sands (Aurora, Ill.)
Pat and her family feel deep gratitude to all who supported her through her long struggle with dementia. Whatever role you played, you were one of her angels. Thank you and Bless you!
Since Pat chose cremation, a Celebration of Life will be planned for Spring.
