Last Tuesday evening news spread through our community of the death of Engebret Anderson Lee, one of our oldest settlers, death being due to old age, coming to release one whose journey through life had been a long one, one for whom toil and strife had ceased to exist. Engebret Lee was born at Belsheim in Vang, Valders, Norway, Jan. 23, 1826. In 1857 he came to America and two years later married Mrs. Gunnild Lia. Of this union were born to them four children, Oline, deceased, Mrs. Berit Smithling, Mrs. Gunnil Peterson and Andrew Lee, the latter living on the old farm place and with whom the deceased has made his home for several years. Funeral services were held in the Washington Prairie church last Friday, conducted by Rev. Paul Koren. The subject of the funeral sermon had been selected by the deceased while living, which made it an appealing sermon to those present. Mr. Lee was a good natured man, of a gentle and peaceful disposition, a man who accepted the course of life as it was destined to come. The deceased took great interest in all church affairs and entertained special pleasure in devoting his time to reading books involving the subject of religion. He leaves to mourn his loss besides the children above mentioned, several grandchildren with whom he was a favorite grandfather. His journey on this earth ended in solemn peace, and may it so be that when our last eve draws nigh may it also find us as willing and ready to depart for the eternal land of glory.
