In Response To: FLORENCE BELLE HENRY (LB)

Hi, I hope you see this post!! I believe that the name John W. Henry was the ALIAS, and that his real name WAS John H. Gipe.
John H. Gipe was born. abt 1843 in Ohio, the son of Henry Gipe & Sarah Ward.
John H. Gipe was married in Black Hawk Co., IA on 26 Nov 1865 to Catherine Eunice Purdy. They were the parents of at least two children: William Marion Gipe (b. 1866 d. 3/29/1934 Black Hawk Co., IA) & Clara (b. Jul 1868 d. Oct 1900). Catherine & John & these two children show up in the 1870 census in Willow, Cherokee Co., IA. In the 1880 census, Catherine is living with her father (his name is mis-written too) and she and her children have the last name of Brown. By this time, a third child is in the household, turns out his marriage record states his name his George C. (Casper) Brown, the son of George W. Brown & Catherine Purdy (no marriage record found yet for Catherine & George W.)
George Casper Brown was born abt 1878 in Black Hawk Co., IA.
On 5 Dec. 1892 in Vinton, Benton Co., IA, Catherine Eunice Purdy Gipe Brown married William Pelley, and he died in 1898.
Catherine Eunice's tombstone states she died in 1915.
In April 1884, John H. Gipe's brother was searching for him and posted messages in local papers(probably because their father had died and for probate reasons needed find him. Below is the article:

"Waterloo Courier 9 April 1884--Information Wanted--The undersigned wishes to know of the where-abouts of John H. Gipe, who was last heard from in Ottumwa, Iowa. Information concerning him will be gladly received by W. M. Gipe, Waterloo, IA.
Iowa papers please copy."

One more interesting note--in the 1900 census, it states that Catherine Eunice was the mother of 4 children, with 3 living. It makes me curious to know why he changed his name to John W. Henry, and I am assuming that Florence was the fourth child, but why was she listed as deceased? Why was she with John, and not with the mother and the other siblings?
