BIRMINGHAM - Gertrude Martin, 81, of Birmingham, died Tuesday, April 25, 1989, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham with the Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment of ashes will be at the Spencer Cemetery near Stockport. Memorials have been established to the First Lutheran Church of Fairfield, the Birmingham First Responders or the Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

Miss Martin was born Jan. 25, 1908, near Eldon, the daughter of Olof and Bettie Johnson Martin. She grew up in the county line community, between Eldon and Batavia, and moved to Stockport in 1920. She graduated from the Stockport High School, worked in Chicago for many years, returned to Stockport in the early 1940s, lived in Fairfield from 1963-1973, and moved to Birmingham in 1973.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

Surviving are a brother Clifford Martin of Keosauqua, a sister Berniece Carter of Birmingham, a nephew William J. Carter of Keosauqua, a niece Betty Jean Hays of Downey, Calif., two great nieces, one great nephew, and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother in infancy.

Martin survivors

Survivivors(err) of Gertrude Martin, in addition to those listed in her obituary in Wednesday's Ledger, are two nephews, Fred Martin of Davenport, Bob Martin of Knoxville, Tenn.; two additional grandnieces and an additional grandnephew. Miss Martin helped raise some of her nephews.
