OTTUMWA - Maurice "Mac" McGlothlen, 81, 310 Clarence, died May 15, 1989, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center, 1001 E. Pennsylvania.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1907, in Ottumwa to John Thomas and Gertrude Buchanan McGlothlen. He graduated from Stockport High School inn 1925, attended Parsons College in Fairfield and Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. A pioneer radioman he held an advanced class radio amatuer(err) radio license WODEG and FCC First Class radio/telephone license. In the 1930s he worked for Braniff Airlines as a radioman and taught radio to CCC Camp in Ottumwa. In 1938, he joined the Ottumwa Police Department as a police radioman and officer. He rose to the rank of assistant police chief before retiring 1969. He was employed by Iowa Department of Public Safety Communications Division in Fairfield from 1969 t0 1975 as a communications operator. He was a member of Iowa State Policemen's Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police and Peace Officers and Associated Public Safety Communications Officers. He married Constance Hiatt on Aug. 22, 1929, in Fairfield; she died Feb. 1, 1979.

He is survived by a daughter, Maureen Samuel of Ottumwa; two sons, Gary M. and Melbern T. of Fairfield; three grandchildren with one granddaughter, Kerry Ann Ragen of Ottumwa raised in their home.

The service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. Jack Williams officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Cemetery near Stockport.

Visitation is open.

A memorial has been established to American Lung Association of Iowa, 1024 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines, 50265.

Maurice McGlothlen

The service was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 1989 at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. Jack Williams officiating. Burial was in Spencer Cemetery near Stockport.

A memorial has been established to American Lung Association of Iowa, 1025 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265.
