Betty J. Shotten

Betty J. Shotten, daughter of Reece and Eva Dunnington Carnes, was born April 7, 1934 near Ottumwa and died Saturday morning, September 16, 1989 at Des Moines General Hospital at the age of 55.

She grew up in Wapello and Van Buren counties, attended Cantril High School and lived her adult life in Ottumwa, except for 10 years in Boone.

Betty married Raymond Shotten April 9, 1955 at Davis Street Christian Church in Ottumwa.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, Larry Beggs of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and Montey Shotten of Ottumwa; five grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Cox, Ottumwa; and a brother, Vernon Carnes, North Shore, California. Her parents, two brothers and a sister preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 19, 1989 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Reverend Andrew Rubenking officiating. Interment was established for the American Cancer Society.
