Rex L. Robertson

Rex L. Robertson, son of Wallace M. and Maude Locke Robertson, was born November 1, 1926 near Douds and died Monday, June 5, 1989 at University Hospitals, Iowa City, at the age of 62.

He grew up in the Douds and Lebanon communities and graduated from Cantril High School in 1944. He farmed near Cantril, operated a hardware, plumbing and heating business in Cantril for a number of years, and had been Cantril's postmaster for 20 years.

Rex was a member of Cantril Christian Church, a past president and long-time secretary of Cantril Lions Club, and was a former Lions Zone chairman. He was a leader in obtaining senior citizens apartments for Cantril, and had been active in various other community endeavors.

He married Marilyn Anderson, October 24, 1945 at Keosauqua.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Terry of Griggsville, Illinois and Lyle of Drakesville; four grandchildren; his father and stepmother, Wallace and Veneta Robertson of Keosauqua. Also surviving are two brothers, Dale, Garland, Texas and Larry, Lewisville, Texas. His mother preceded him in death in 1950.

Funeral services were held June 6, 1989 in the Cantril Christian Church with Reverend Gerald Caughron officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cantril.

Memorials were established for the Cantril Christian Church and the Iowa Lions Eye Bank.
