Frances Spees

Frances Spees, daughter of Edwin and Weltha Roush Elsensohn, was born Jan. 20, 1918 at Douds and died Tuesday, January 10, 1989 at Clarksville Memorial Hospital, Clarksville, Tenn. at the age of 70.

She grew up near Douds and Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School. On December 24, 1935 she married Harold L. Spees at Downing, Mo. Her husband was a career Army officer and they lived i various locations, retiring to Clarksville in 1960. Mr. Spees died in 1986. Two sisters, Janet and Agnes Elsensohn also preceded her in death.

Surviving are a son, Larry and his wife Rosemary, a daughter, Linda Pitts and her husband, Archie, all of Clarksville, five granddaughters, Vicky Whaley, Lisa Wade, and Kristy, Jessica and Alexis Pitts, and three great grandchildren, Kyle Whaley and Nadia and Adam Wade. Also surviving are two sisters, Erma Driscoll, Sun Lakes, Arizona and Madelyn Carr, Olivia, Minn., nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was a member of New Providence United Methodist Church in Clarksville, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Officers Wives Bridge Club.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13, 1989 at 1 p.m. in the Christ United Methodist Church, Douds, with Rev. Stephen Metcalf-Conte officiating. Interment will be in Leando Cemetery at Douds.

Friends may call at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, beginning Friday morning. The family will be at the funeral home 10-11 A.M. Friday. Memorials to the Leando Cemetery may be left at the funeral home.
