Edward Gale Parsons

Edward Gale Parsons, son of Edward and Beatrice Wolf Parsons, was born March 17, 1908 at Mount Sterling and died early the morning of Wednesday, March 1, 1989 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua at the age of 80.

He grew up in Mt. Sterling and graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1928. He attended the University of Iowa and a radio trade school in Valparaiso, Indiana, and worked at Chicago radio station. He was a salesman for Meyercord Cord in the New England States and moved to Keosauqua in 1949 and represented Meyercord in southern Iowa.

In 1951 he became a partner in Rigsby Motor Co. in Keosauqua. He bought the company in 1952 and operated as Parsons Chevrolet-Olds until his retirement in 1981.

Gale was an avid sportsman and trap and skeet shooter. He had been state champion skeet shooter in both Michigan and Iowa.

He had been a member of the Iowa Auto Dealers Association and the Keosauqua Business Association.

He married Marjorie Rigsby in 1935 at Crown Point, Indiana. She preceded him in death in 1982.

Remaining to cherish his memory are a son, Fred and his wife, Sheila of Keosauqua, five grandchildren, Bradley Parsons, Forest Grove, Oregon, Julia Parsons, Naperville, Illinois, Stephen Parsons, Cedar Rapids, and Johanna and Joshua Parsons, Keosauqua, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 3, 1989 at 10:30 A.M. in the Keosauqua Christian Church, Rev. Bob Patterson officiating. Interment was in Center Chapel Cemetery south of Keosauqua. Memorials may be made to the Marjorie and Gale Parsons memorial scholarship fund at Van Buren Community High School. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home.
