Clair Roush

Clair Roush, daughter of Hugh and Anna Saunderson Barker, was born November 17, 1895 at Mt. Zion, Iowa and died Tuesday evening, April 25, 1989 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua at the age of 93.

She married Ray Roush June 14, 1916 at Mt. Zion. They farmed in the Douds and Mt. Sterling communities. He died in 1980. Clair Roush lived in Florissant, Missouri from 1970 until entering the Good Samaritan Center in February, 1989.

Surviving are three sons, Samuel and Robert, both of Keosauqua and Carl of Mt. Sterling; seven daughters, Beatrice Panting, Portersville, California, Janice Judd and Louise Nichols, both of Mt. Sterling, Alice Groene, Annadale, Virginia, Hazel Jean Roush, Keosauqua, Mildred Hutchinson, Pinole, California, and Frances Roush, Florissant, Missouri. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and a sister, Hazel Roush, Keosauqua.

A son, Keith gave his life for his country in World War II. Four grandchildren, six brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.

She was a member of Mt. Sterling United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 28, 1989 in the Mt. Sterling United Methodist Church with Reverend Andrew Rubenking officiating. Interment was in Harness Cemetery, Mt. Sterling. A memorial was established for her church. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua was in charge of arrangements.
