Mildred E. Michael, 75, formerly of Selma, died March 2, 1989, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

She was born Dec. 21, 1913, in Davis County to Allen and Hildred Rhime Jones. A resident of Davis County and Van Buren counties most of her life, she attended Zion Bible Church near Douds. She was a member of John Hyson Reneker Unit 494 American Legion Auxiliary in Douds, Juanto Rebekah Lodge 250, Selma, Selma Home Circle Club and was a Cameo Paint demonstrator. She married Joseph O. Michael on March 9, 1958, and lived on the Michael family century farm south of Selma for 30 years. She and her husband resided at Good Samaritan Center since 1988.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Elizabeth Stone of Douds and Mary Jane Herem of Marshalltown; two sons, Paul David Carlisle of Hermiston, Ore., and Thomas M. Carlisle of Whittier, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Madelene McMillen of Umatilla, Ore., and Mary Lee Pool of Reynolds; and two brothers, Paul Jones of Hermiston, Ore., and John Jones of Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Link; a son, William Carlisle; and five grandchildren.

The service was held Tuesday, March 7, 1989 at Zion Bible Church east of Douds, the Rev. Walter Shuka officiating. Burial was in Iowaville Cemetery near Selma.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society or Van Buren Good Samaritan Center may be left at the funeral home.
