Joseph O. Michael

SELMA - The service for Joseph O. Michael, 82, Selma, who died at 12:40 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, 1989, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the Rev. Walter Shuka officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Iowaville Cemetery near Selma. Visitation will be open from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua and start at 9 a.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds. Memorials to Van Buren Good Samaritan Center may be left at the funeral home.

Michael was born May 24, 1907, near Selma, the son of Edgar D. and Ditta Overturf Michael. He married Jones Carlisle March 9, 1958. She died March 2, 1989. He spent his life farming south of Selma. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe in World War II and was wounded in action. He was a member of John Hyson Reneker Post 494, American Legion in Douds and Disabled American Veterans in Ottumwa.

Surviving are two stepdaughters, Elizabeth Stone of Douds, Mary Jane Harem of Marshalltown; two stepsons, Paul David Carlisle of Hermiston, Ore., Thomas Carlisle of Whittier, Calif.; 17 stepchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren and a sister, Josephine Miller of Davenport. Two brothers, George and Dean; a stepdaughter, Sarah Link and five stepgrandchildren preceded him in death.
