Nona L. Hornbaker

Nona L. Hornbaker was born March 14, 1900, and went to eternal life Saturday, June 29, 1989.

The daughter of Ronnie M. and Catherine House Story, she was united in marriage to Roger B. Hornbaker August 27, 1919. To this union were born six children: Cecil Hornbaker, Keosauqua, Elaine Burkett, Keosauqua, Gayle Hornbaker, Minnetonka, MN.; Jo Anne Baxter, Stronghurst, Ill.; Duane Hornbaker, deceased; and Carolyn Ohlendorf, Muscatine, Iowa. There are 22 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Hornbaker was born south of Bonaparte and spent nearly all her life in the rural Bonaparte area. She was a graduate of Bonaparte High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. She taught in a rural school north of Bonaparte.

Mr. and Mrs. Hornbaker were engaged in farming. Before retiring, Mrs. Hornbaker was active in church, community, and Farm Bureau activities. She had lived in Keosauqua for the past three years.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one son. Interment was in Thompson Cemetery.

Nona L. Hornbaker

Nona L. Hornbaker, 89, Keosauqua, formerly of Bonaparte, died at 12:09 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 1989 at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Mrs. Hornbaker was born March 14, 1900 at Bonaparte. She moved to Keosauqua in 1986. She was a member of the Bonaparte United Church.

On August 27, 1919 at Fairfield, she was married to Roger Hornbaker, who died September 10, 1986.

Surviving are two sons, Cecil of Keosauqua and Gayle of Minnetonka, Minnesota; three daughters, Elaine Burkett, Keosauqua, Mrs. Harry (Jo Anne) Baxter, Stronghurst, and Mrs. Vernon (Carolyn) Ohlendorf, Muscatine; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son. Her parents were Rannie and Catherine House Story.

Services were held at Hofbauer Funeral Home in Farmington Saturday, July 1, 1989. The Reverend Fred Maone officiated. Burial was in Thompson Cemetery near Bonaparte.

Memorials are being established with the American Diabetes Association and with Thompson Cemetery. Contributions may be made at the funeral home.
