J. William Flickinger

J. William Flickinger, 50, of 202 1/2 E. Warren St., Mount Pleasant, died at 12:38 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 1988, at University Hospitals of Iowa City.

Born Dec. 21, 1937, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of the late Leo F. and Gertrude Searcy Flickinger Smith, former Keosauqua residents. He married Carole J. Kinney Feb. 4, 1960, in Mt. Pleasant.

He had served on active duty with the Iowa National Guard, Burlington and Middletown, for 12 years and with the U.S. Army Reserve, Mt. Pleasant, for the last 21 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 58 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2561, Mt. Pleasant.

Surviving are his mother, Yuma, Ariz.; four daughters, Mrs. Maryann (Brock) Ivie-Blair and Angela Ivie-Bowman, both of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Carla (Albert) Compagna and Dana Ivie, both of West Haven, Conn.; one brother, Franklin Flickinger, Chariton (former Keosauqua resident); one step-brother, Sanford, Galesburg, Ill. and one granddaughter.

A memorial service for Mr. Flickinger was held in Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.

A memorial has been established for the American Lung Association.
