Bertha R. Saunderson

Bertha R. Saunderson, daughter of William H. and Ida Moore Saunderson, was born December 19, 1892 near Mount Zion and died Saturday, February 13, 1988 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 95.

She graduated from Keosauqua High School and Iowa Wesleyan College, taught home economics a number of years in Keosauqua High School and other area schools. She had a beautiful singing voice and was a talented musician.

She moved from Keosauqua to Fairfield in 1950, later moved to Santa Rosa, California and in June, 1987 moved to St. Mary's Residential Home in Albuquerque.

She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church.

Miss Saunderson was appointed guardian of her two nephews, Dan and Dell DeHart at the death of their parents when they were quite young.

Surviving are a sister, Helen Gove of Keosauqua and several nieces and nephews including Dan DeHart of Albuquerque and Dell DeHart of St. George, Utah.

Preceding her in death were two sisters, Mabel DeHart and Edith Saunderson, and two brothers, Henry and Mont Saunderson.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 18, 1988 at 11 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Reverend Don Morrison officiating. Interment will be in Purdom Cemetery, Keosauqua. Memorials may be made to the Keosauqua United Methodist Church.
