Calvin Henry Corns

Calvin Henry Corns, 92, Denmark, died at 7:35 a.m. today, April 7, at the Donnellson Manor Care Center. He had been in failing health since March 1987.

Mr. Corns was born Feb. 24, 1896, at Bentonsport. He retired in 1961 as a correctional officer at the Iowa State Penitentiary with 25 years service. He was of the Protestant faith. An Army veteran of World War I, he was a member of American Legion Post 463 of Bonaparte.

On Sept. 28, 1921, at Bonaparte, he married Jennie June Henry, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Henry Corns, Denmark, and Stanley and Charles Corns, both of Fort Madison; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Bergmeier, Nauvoo, and Mrs. Albert (Barbara) Six, Niota; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers and two sisters. His parents were Martin Henry and Mary Etta Scott Corns.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bentonsport Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Kamilos will officiate.

The body is at the Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison where friends may call after noon Friday at until noon Saturday and where the family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.
